Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Ground Beef
  • 1 Giant Sesame Seed Bun
  • 6 slices American Cheese
  • 1 large Beefsteak Tomato
  • 1 cup Iceberg Lettuce
  • 1/2 White Onion
  • 1/2 cup Dill Pickles
  • 2 tbsp Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Mustard
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper

Equipment

  • 1 Large Cast-Iron Pan or Griddle
  • 2 Large Spatulas (Note: To carefully flip the giant patty)
  • 1 Chef's Knife (Note: For slicing vegetables and the burger)

Method

  1. Press the ground beef into a large, flat patty slightly wider than the bun.
  2. Season generously with kosher salt and black pepper on both sides.
  3. Heat a large griddle or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook the patty for 10-12 minutes on the first side until a crust forms.
  5. Carefully flip the giant patty using two large spatulas.
  6. Layer the cheese slices over the patty during the last 3 minutes of cooking so it melts perfectly.

  7. Spread ketchup and mustard on the bottom bun. Layer lettuce, pickles, onions, and tomato.
  8. Transfer the cooked cheesy patty onto the bun, add the top bun, and slice into wedges to serve.

Notes

Pro Tip: Make sure your pan is very hot before adding the patty to get that perfect crust. Don't press down on the burger while it cooks, or you'll lose all those delicious juices!
